The pediatric department was established in SMI Hospital in 2002 and incorporated into the medical college since its inception in 2006. In addition to 60 bedded indoor facility, it has state of art 20 bedded NICU & 5 bedded PICU equipped with the latest equipment and facilities. Daily Ped OPD is about 100 per day. The department runs on a regular basis, well baby clinic, immunization clinic, and child guidance clinic under the supervision of a very experienced Child psychologist.

Infrastucture

1. Demonstration Rooms – 2 with a seating capacity of 35 students each.
2. Seminar cum Library Room – 1 with audiovisual facilities like LCD & OHP, X-Ray view box, Internet Facility, etc.
3. The department has a centrally air-conditioned, 5-bedded pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) and 16 bedded Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU)

Teaching Activities

Lecture and demonstration classes are conducted with the help of available different audio-visual aids i.e. LCD, OHP, Blackboard, Digital display Microscope, etc. 2 dedicated lectures are held per week. 6 ward clinics per week and 6 tutorials/seminars/demonstrations are held every week. In addition, case presentations and workshops are held from time to time.
