The world’s smallest pacemaker has been implanted under the supervision of Dr. (Col.) Salil Garg at Fortis Hospital, Chandigarh. It’s significant to mention that Dr. Salil Garg is the HOD of Deptt. of Cardiology at Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital. He was invited from Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital, Dehradun to Fortis Hospital, Chandigarh for this purpose. The pacemaker was implanted at Fortis Hospital with the help of the doctors and staff of the hospital. It’s worth mentioning that in the past, Salil Garg had already implanted the very first micro pacemaker of Uttarakhand at Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital. Dr. Salil Garg is a renowned name in the discipline of Cardiologist. Fortis Hospital had given a special invitation to Dr. Salil Garg for conducting this procedure.
Senior Cardiologist and HOD, Deptt. of Cardiology, Dr. (Col) Salil Garg informed that this pacemaker is weighing just 2 grams and in size it is equal to a big vitamin capsule. In Medical Science, this is called Micro Transcathetar Pacing System. This is the world’s smallest pacemaker for the patients of Bradycardia.
