BRIEF INTRODUCTION:-
SWAMI VIVEKANAND NATIONAL AWARDEE-2011 / SHIKSHA BHARTI AWARDEE-2011 / SHIKSHA BHARTI AWARDEE-2011 / RAJIV GANDHI EXCELLENCE AWARDEE-2011 / ASIA PACIFIC INTERNATIONAL AWARDEE-2012, presented by Global Achievers Foundation in Global Achievers Summit at Tashkent (Uzbekistan) / DR. SHIVANAND MEMORIAL AWARD-2012 & DOCTOR OF LITERATURE (D.Litt) DEGREE FROM THE OPEN INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY FOR COMPLEMENTARY MEDICINE OF SRILANKA-2012, Shri Mahant Devendra Dass is the 10th Mahant of Shri Guru Ram Rai Darbar Sahib. Established 350 years ago by Shri Guru Ram Rai ji, the eldest son of the seventh Guru of the Sikh. Shri Guru Ram Rai Darbar Sahib, Dehradun is a philanthropic and religious organization. The head of Darbar Sahib, called Sajjada Nashin, Shri Mahant leads a life of celibacy and dedicates his life for the noble cause of the society. His Holiness Shri Mahant Devendra Dass Ji was declared Shri Mahant on 10th February 2000.After renouncing all his worldly relations he became the disciple of Shri Mahant Indiresh Charan Dass and embarked on the new journey of the life. On the 10th of June 2000, Shri Mahant Indiresh Charan Dass Ji left for his heavenly abode and on 25th June 2000 Shri Mahant Devendra Dass Ji shouldered the responsibility of 10th Mahant Shri Guru Ram Rai Darbar Sahib. Thus a new chapter started in the history of Darbar Sahib. Shri Mahant ji supervises the activities and affairs of Shri Darbar Sahib and its Education Mission with complete devotion and dedication.
ACTIVITIES
1. EDUCATION: - Shri Guru Ram Rai Education Mission was established in 1952 to impart quality education for the all round development of poor, low income group and deprived classes of the society at nominal cost. With a modest beginning the Mission today imparts education in its 122 institutions in northern India through English and Hindi medium from nursery to PhD.
The Mission has also started Organic Farming, efforts are being made for establishment of Biotechnology Park and the contract is signed with Biotechnology Park Lucknow. The MOU of faculty & student exchange program has been signed on Dated 14 Dec 2011 with Kansas University of medicine USA, two faculties has already visited SGRRIMHS from Kansas and two faculties has also visited Kansas from SGRRIMHS. During this period when MOU has been signed Eight Faculty members from USA has visited and observed the working of the college & Hospital and they were very much impressed by the system. This program will be long lasting with Kansas USA. Considering the need of the present society, Shri Mahant Devendra Dass ji is making all possible efforts to modernize the institutions. The Mission endeavors to ensure a fine balance between the ancient and the modern values to impart the best education to the young generation in the following institutions:-
a. Primary, Secondary & Senior Secondary Schools - At present over 1 lakh students are getting education and more than 10000 employees are working in these schools.
Free Secondary Education: Darbarshaib established Shri Laxman Vidyalaya, Intermediate College in 1947. The college is imparting free education since 1947, to the students, who were not able to afford education in the other relatively costly Schools and colleges of Dehradun. Darbarshaib established another Intermediate College in 1950 in the village Bhogpur of Dehradun. After the establishment of these three prestigious Institutions by Darbarshaib then the Shri Guru Ram Rai Education Mission was established in the Year 1952 under the Societies registration Act 1860. In the series of establishment of Intermediate colleges the following more colleges were established in the rural areas of Garhwal; SGRR Intermediate College Shashpur 1958, SGRR Intermediate College NehruGram 1959; SGRR Girls Intermediate College Bindal 1964; SGRR Intermediate College Paukhal Garhwal 1965; SGRR Intermediate College Bhauwala 1974, The SGRR Education Mission has played an important role in enhancing the standard of education of not only Uttrakhand but country at large. Today the mission is educating students from all walks of life from every state of India as well as abroad.
Low Cost Model of English Medium Schools: In 1965 the education mission felt that the gap in the knowledge level as well as the importance of English medium was increasing but the English medium education was not at all within the reach of the poor and middleclass masses of this particular region of India. Only few were able to afford it. The education Mission established first English medium CBSE School in 1965, popularly known as Talab School Dehradun. After the opening of this school, the people from various parts of rural India came to Maharaji and requested to open such Schools in their villages/cities. The SGRR Education mission is opening almost every year such schools in the rural India to full fill the needs of the common man. At present approximately 85,000 students are enrolled in these Schools and getting English Medium Education on nominal cost. In the year 1967 two Public Schools were started in Bombay Bagh, Dehradun. In seventies ten English medium schools were started in various parts of northern India. The missions continue in its mission and till 2006 established total 125 Schools in Northern India.
b. Shri Guru Ram Rai (P.G) College: The SGRR (PG) College was founded by Brahamleen Mahant Shri Indresh Charan Dasji Maharaj to enable the meritorious but poor students of Uttar Pradesh and its neighboring states to realize their dreams of pursuing higher education at nominal cost. In 1960 starting with only three subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) at graduate level, the college has made steady progress over the years and now it provides education right from graduate to PhD level. At present, at Post Graduate Level, subjects offered in Science stream are Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology, and Geology, Micro Biology, Biotechnology, Agronomy. In faculty of arts, postgraduate courses are available in English Literature, Hindi Literature, Economics, Mathematics, History and Political Science. The college has also started Faculty of Agriculture; B.Sc. Agriculture, 4 years semester system since 2005. Master of Social Works, PG Diploma in Mass communication, PG Diploma in Tourism & Hoteling is also in the college. The College has well equipped laboratories experimental Farms, nursery, poly house, and medicinal plants block etc. The following departments of the college are recognized research center for the PhD program; Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Botany, Geology, English Literature and Economics. The College has a central library with 30,000 books of various subjects. The college has also faculty of Education with B.Ed./M.Ed.

c. Sanskrit Mahavidyalay: In order to make a synthesis of oriental learning and modern, the Mission imparts Sanskrit education to the students from various parts of the country at free of cost. The Scholars/ pandits (religious teachers) are doing a great service to the society not only by conducting religious ceremonies but also boosting the morale of the defence personnel as religious teachers and ethical teachings to the people.
d. Shri Guru Ram Rai University : Shri Guru Ram Rai University aims at providing exceptional value to students by guiding them to achieve their aspirations through personalized and industry relevant learning opportunities. The University envisages to advance the intellectual and social conditions of the people through creation, translation and dissemination of knowledge.

e. Shri Guru Ram Rai Institution of Medical and Health Sciences:–
SGRR Education mission realized the increasing needs of medical & health care problems particularly for the poor masses of hill region. The SGRRIM&HS was established in the year 2000 to provide medical help on nominal cost to the common masses. Initially 300 bedded charitable hospital was made for the public and then it was extended in to 1500 bedded teaching hospital. In the year 2006-07 SGRRIM&HS started MBBS after the recommendation by the medical Council of India. The Medical College is affiliated with HNB Garhwal University which is Central University. The MOU of faculty & student exchange program has been signed on Dated 14 Dec 2011 with Kansas University of medicine USA, two faculties has already visited SGRRIMHS from Kansas and two faculties has also visited Kansas from SGRRIMHS. During this period when MOU has been signed Eight Faculty members from USA has visited and observed the working of the college & Hospital and they were very much impressed by the system. This program will be long lasting with Kansas USA. The Hospital aims at serving the common man with high quality health and medical services. With a view to achieve it, the following measures are taken: first highly experienced post-graduates/super-specialist Doctors/Physicians, employed for the services, secondly high quality, branded equipments are purchased and used, third service provided at minimal rates, and free of cost beds for the poor patients.
At present the hospital has following departments/facilities and more departments /facilities and beds will be added gradually: Emergency/Causality - 24 hours, General Medicine, Cardiology & CCU, Dialysis facilities, Pediatrics and neonatology including NICU, Skin & V.D., Psychiatry, General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, Orthopedics, and Gynecology & Obstetrics, E.N.T., Ophthalmology, Dentistry, Radiology, Anesthesiology & Intensive Care Unit, CSSD, Pathology, Biochemistry and Microbiology, Emergency functions round the clock for 365 days in a year. Pathology, Radiology, Operation Theatre, CT Scan and MRI services are available for 24 hours functions for 24 hours a day. The licensed Blood Bank and component Separation unit is functioning since December 2004 which works round the clock. Dialysis unit has 2 machines working 24 hours daily. The patient in operation theatre, ICU, CCU and High Dependency Unit of Emergency are monitored with most sophisticated equipments installed. The OPD functions from 9.00 am to 3.00 pm and 05 PM to 08 PM in the evening from Monday to Saturday. Sunday is a holiday.
A spacious and well stacked Central Library as per MCI norms is available with the sitting capacity for two hundred and seventy students and fifty faculty members. Leased circuit Internet connection and meddler facilities are available in the library. The Librarian is managed by well qualified, experienced staff.
Medical Education Unit has been established in the college campus as per recommendation of MCI. The Unit has all audio-visual aids (OHP, Slide projector, LCD projectors etc.) and complete infrastructure to develop pedagogy. The Medical Education Unit in Collaboration with teaching hospital is organizing CME activities periodically.

f. Future Plans: As a part of the expansion of the mission, Shri Mahant ji has planned to setup Shri Guru Ram Engineering Colleges, Deemed University, N.R.I University, a hospital in each block of the rural area and shelters for old people, orphan, and destitute.
2. ECOLOGIST AND ENVIRONMENTALIST :– Shri Maharaj Ji takes keen interest to the conserve the plants and animals. He loves wildlife including plants and animals. Massive plantation on barren land is initiated by him. All possible efforts are being made to conserve natural resources like water, air, soil and forest. He also wants to conduct a massive cleanliness drive for holy river Ganga.
3. TEA ESTATE AND AGRICULTURE FARMS :– A detailed plan is in the process for the rejuvenation of 100 year old tea garden and orchard (750 acres) of SGRR mission, not only to maintain but also to enhance the eco-system of the Doon valley. Green tea is exported to Punjab, Kashmir and some foreign countries.
4. GAMES AND SPORTS :– Shri Mahant Devendra Dass Ji is a keen lover of games and sports. He donated generously during first U.K state level games and Garhwal University Sports meet. Many play grounds for various games like Football, Basket Ball, Cricket, Hockey, and Badminton etc. have been made in the schools, colleges, institutes and hostels of the Mission. The sportsmen with special talent are always motivated by giving generous help.
5. PHILANTHROPIST:- Under the patronage of Shri Maharaj ji following Philanthropic works are being done

Donation and help:- Generous help to the victims of flood, earthquake and other natural calamities.

Food: Langar at free of cost provides food twice a day to approximately 1000 beggars, poor, helpless, hungry, saints ,monks & students.

Lodging: SGRR provides free lodging to the disciples as well as visitors. A big Inn is available at Jhanda Sahib.

Free clothing: clothing at free of cost is provided to the poorest of the poor

Financial Assistance: Financial assistance is regularly given by Shri Mahant ji to poor students, widows, sick people, saints, monks and also for the marriage of the daughters of the poor people.

Free health checkup and treatment: Free treatment is given to a large number of the people in need.
In the race for materialism there is fast decay of basic human values .Shri Maharaj ji has a dream for such society where every individual is kind, compassionate and considerate. The divinity of Shri Maharaj ji energizes all the members of Shri Guru Ram Rai family to realize this dream.
