A major step towards mental health assessment of special children.
To understand the condition of children struggling with increasing mental and developmental issues in Jhandi Chaur and nearby areas, a special health camp was organized in Jhandi Chaur, Kotdwar under the joint collaboration of Shri Guru Ram Rai University and Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital, Patel Nagar, Dehradun. Local representatives of the region brought to the notice of Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Mrs. Ritu Bhushan Khanduri, that a large number of children in this area are facing mental disabilities or developmental challenges.
On Tuesday, the program began with the lighting of the lamp by Dr. Kamlesh Kumar, Director of Poorvi Bharati Devi Education Foundation, Kotdwar. Notably, considering the seriousness of children's mental health issues, the Speaker, Mrs. Ritu Bhushan Khanduri, during her visit to Shri Darbar Sahib, Dehradun, had requested the Honourable President of Shri Guru Ram Rai University, Shri Mahant Devendra Das Ji Maharaj, to organize a special medical camp in Jhandi Chaur, Kotdwar. Acting upon this concern, a six-member team of specialist doctors from Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital conducted mental, physical, and developmental assessments of more than 100 children.
During the special camp, the medical team assessed the mental health of children and prepared detailed data based on screening. This data will help identify potential clinical, nutritional, or environmental causes behind mental disability or behavioral issues in the region. A large number of children and their guardians from Jhandi Chaur, Lokmanipur, Kishanpur, Kalal Ghati, and Haldukhata attended the camp and provided detailed health information to the doctors.
The specialist team from Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital included Dr. Vidushi Makkar and Dr. Mankaran Sandhu from the Department of Psychiatry, child psychiatrist Dr. Archana Singh and Dr. Anupam Joshi from the Pediatrics Department, and Dr. Ravikant and Dr. Alok Kumar from the Department of Community Medicine.
Important support in organizing and successfully conducting this camp was provided by local contributors including Balraj Dutta, Satya Prakash Thapliyal, Dr. Nand Kishore, Jitendra Negi, Dhirendra Mohan Raturi (Director, SGRR Public School), Dr. Girish Uniyal (Principal, SGRR Paramedical College), and Harishankar Gaur (Public Relations Officer, Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital).
