Patients to receive faster, accurate, and world-class diagnostic results

The Department of Biochemistry at Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical & Health Sciences inaugurated Uttarakhand’s first robotic fully automated laboratory and Centre of Excellence on Wednesday, 18 February 2026, marking a significant milestone in the medical field. The state-of-the-art facility was inaugurated at the Central Biochemistry Laboratory of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital, Patel Nagar. On this occasion, a Continuing Medical Education (CME) program on the topic “Benefits of Six Sigma and Total Laboratory Automation” was also organized. The Honorable Chairman of the hospital, Shri Mahant Devendra Dass Ji Maharaj, congratulated and extended his best wishes to the doctors and the entire team for this achievement.

The laboratory was formally inaugurated on Wednesday. Thereafter, the Vice Chancellor of Shri Guru Ram Rai University, Prof. K. Pratapan; Principal of SGRRIM&HS, Dr. Utkarsh Sharma; Chief Medical Superintendent, Dr. Anil Malik; Medical Superintendent, Dr. Gaurav Raturi; Medical Superintendent, Dr. Virendra Verma; Head of the Department of Biochemistry, Dr. Tariq Masood; Professor, Dr. Rana Usmani; and Laboratory In-charge, Dr. Anshul M. Kala, formally inaugurated the program by cutting the ribbon and cake.

A major highlight of the event was the scientific deliberation by experts. Consultant Biochemist Dr. Bhavana Bais from Medanta Hospital Lucknow delivered an informative lecture on the benefits of robotic total laboratory automation in patient care. She explained that in modern diagnostics, this technology significantly improves efficiency, accuracy, and turnaround time of test reports, thereby ensuring faster and more reliable treatment for patients.

Following this, Dr. Tariq Masood presented an engaging session on Six Sigma in laboratory medicine and its role in enhancing quality and diagnostic outcomes. The program also included an interactive panel discussion and question-and-answer session, promoting meaningful knowledge exchange among doctors, laboratory professionals, and healthcare stakeholders.

Experts present at the event described this initiative as a major step toward providing world-class diagnostic facilities to patients. The robotic fully automated laboratory will provide faster, more accurate, and error-free diagnostic reports, enabling timely and precise diagnosis of serious diseases. This system ensures complete digital tracking of samples, minimizes human error, reduces turnaround time, and delivers high-quality clinical results, thereby accelerating treatment for ICU and emergency patients.

Experts further explained that the Six Sigma-based quality system minimizes errors and ensures accuracy and reliability in accordance with international standards, enabling safer, more effective, and improved patient care. This initiative will prove to be a significant milestone in elevating the quality of modern diagnostic services and patient care in Uttarakhand, particularly in Dehradun.
