The department was established in the year 2002.Since 2002, the department has been consistently expanding in all dimensions catering to almost 8000-10,000 patients every year with treatment by six specialities as follows:

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery:

The branch deals with all the major and minor surgical cases.

Expert care deals in:

  • All types of tooth extraction/ Impactions
  • Facial fractures
  • Oral pathologies (soft tissue lesions/ jaw cysts/tumors)
  • Temporomandibular joint( jaw joint) pain/dislocation treatments.
  • Dental infections and abscess
  • Appropriate oral cancer screening and referral
  • Dental surgeries required by the physically challengened, specially-abled group of patients.

Prosthodontics:

The branch focuses on making dental prosthesis for missing or damaged teeth. It deals with complete dental rehabilitation of edentulous, partially edentulous patients.Additionally, provides the following facilities:

  • Over dentures
  • Feeding appliance prior to cleft plate and cleft lip surgery.
  • Maxillofacial obturator
  • Fixed partial dentures( bridges)
  • Zirconia crowns and PFM Crowns
  • Genital prosthesis as and when required in collaboration with gynecology department.

Pedodontics:

It is also known as paediatric dentistry, focuses on the oral health of children from infancy through adolescence. It includes preventive care, diagnosis, and treatment of dental issues specific to children, such as cavities, tooth development concerns, and early orthodontic assessments, ensuring healthy dental habits and oral health for life.
Expert Care includes:

  • Infant oral health exams, including risk assessment for cavities in both mother and child.
  • Preventive dental care, such as cleanings, fluoride treatments, and nutrition recommendations.
  • Habit counseling (e.g., behaviour management, diet, pacifier use, thumb sucking).

Periodontics

A periodontist treats conditions that affect the tissues around the teeth, such as bone loss, gum recession and periodontal (gum) disease.

  • Treatment of root caries in geriatric (old) patients.
  • Cleaning of teeth, removal of tartar with ultrasonic machine.
  • Gum (Gingival ) pockets treatment with hand curettage.
  • Treatment of gum recession, gum enlargement by minor surgical procedure. (Gingivectomies, recession coverage with tissue flap).
  • Depigmentation procedure of gingival tissue for esthetic treatment with gingivoplasty
  • Treatment of bleeding gums (gingivitis)
  • Treatment of jaw bone loss with bone grafting.

Orthodontics

Orthodontics is a dentistry speciality that addresses the diagnosis, prevention, management and correction of mal-positioned teeth and jaw including modification of facial growth also referred as Dentofacial orthopaedics.Orthodontic treatment uses appliance to correct the position of teeth.

Conservative and Endodntics

The speciality deals with the treatment of caries, malformed, discolored, unesthetic, or fractured teeth and Endodontics deals with treatment of pulpal and periapical diseases and emergency dental pain management.The procedures performed by an endodontist are:

  • Root canal Treatment ( Acute/ chronic dental Pain)
  • Restorations( Composite/GIC)
  • Post and core
  • Veneers
  • Treatment of fractured teeth

  • Management of tumors/ cysts of the mandible Team-based approach which includes excision of the pathology followed by free fibula reconconstruction of the mandible.
  • Management of Neonate tumor
  • TMJ Ankylosis ( release following by rib graft reconstruction of the joint)
  • Chronic TMJ Dislocation
  • Mal united Pan facial Fractures
  • Medically compromised patients ( CKD, CAD etc.requiring major facial surgeries)
  • Feeding Appliance for neonates

Department of ENT

  • Oral prosthesis/ maxillofacial obturator for mucormycosis treated cases.
  • Treatment of neck abscesses due to dental infection.

Department of Orthopedic Surgery

Dental treatment /clearance of orthopedic patients prior to total Knee replacement surgery.

Department of Neurology

  • Atypical Facial Pain
  • Treatment of facial neuralgias

Department of Oncology

All types of pre-operative dental treatment required by the patient prior to tumor resection and radiotherapy.

DIAGNOSTICS:

The department boasts of using precision equipment such as Apex locator and Digital X-Ray (RVG) in the Department.
