Healthy Women, Strong Families: SMIH Experts Boost Awareness Campaign

“Special initiative dedicated to women’s health on PM Modi’s birthday”

“Experts highlight life-saving insights on Ovarian, Uterine, and Cervical Cancers”

The “Healthy Women, Empowered Families” (Swasth Naari: Sashkt Parivar Abhiyan) campaign, launched on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday (September 17), gained new momentum at Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical & Health Sciences and Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital, Dehradun. Dedicated to women’s health, the initiative featured a comprehensive awareness program focused on gynecological cancers—ovarian, uterine, and cervical.

The program began with a lamp-lighting ceremony at the hospital auditorium, graced by Dr. Manoj Gupta, Director, SGRR Institute of Medical & Health Sciences, Dr. Anil Malik, Chief Medical Superintendent, Dr. Ajay Pandita, Medical Superintendent, Dr. Gaurav Raturi, Medical Superintendent and Dr. Anjali Choudhary, Senior Gynecology & Obstetrics Specialist.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Yamini Kansal, Associate Professor and Gynecologic Oncologist, Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital, explained that early symptoms of ovarian cancer may include persistent bloating, loss of appetite, frequent urination, or abdominal pain. Uterine cancer can manifest as abnormal bleeding or irregular periods after menopause, while cervical cancer often shows warning signs such as unusual vaginal discharge, bleeding after intercourse, and pelvic pain.

Dr. Kansal emphasized the importance of preventive measures like regular Pap smears, HPV vaccination, and timely consultation with gynecologists. She noted that while early-stage cancers can often be treated effectively with surgery and radiotherapy, advanced cases may require chemotherapy and targeted therapies. “Awareness and timely screening are the most powerful tools to protect women from these life-threatening diseases,” she said.

On this occasion, Dr. Manoj Gupta remarked, “Today is special as we celebrate the birthday of our Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi with joy and gratitude. This day inspires us to take meaningful steps for society, especially in the field of women’s health.”

He further shared that SGRR Institute of Medical & Health Sciences and Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital, in collaboration with the Uttarakhand Health Department, will be organizing free health camps across various locations from September 17 to October 2, 2025, under the “Comprehensive Health Fortnight Program.”

The campaign, initiated on PM Modi’s birthday, strongly reinforces the message that “a healthy woman is the foundation of a strong family.” The initiative by Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital is poised to significantly strengthen women’s health awareness across Uttarakhand.
