41st Eye Donation Fortnight Celebrated at SMI Eye Bank

Dehradun: The SMI Eye Bank, Dehradun, organised a programme to mark the 41st Eye Donation Fortnight, aimed at creating awareness about eye donation and acknowledging the valuable contribution of those associated with the eye donation movement.

During the programme, families of eye donors were felicitated in recognition of their noble decision to donate the eyes of their loved ones and help restore the gift of sight to others.

The nursing staff members who promptly report mortalities to the Eye Bank were also felicitated for their important role in facilitating timely eye donation and corneal retrieval. Their timely communication and cooperation are crucial in ensuring that potential eye donors are identified within the appropriate time.

An awareness lecture on eye donation was delivered by Prof. Dr. Tarannum Shakeel, Director, SMI Eye Bank. She highlighted the importance of eye donation, addressed common misconceptions and encouraged people to come forward and pledge their eyes after death.

The programme emphasised that eye donation is a noble act through which a person can continue to give the gift of sight even after death, thereby bringing hope and light into the lives of others.
