39th National Eye Donation Fortnight celebrations culminated on 10th September 2024 with the NETRA DAAT DIWAS being observed by Shri Mahant Indiresh Eye Bank (SMIEB). On this day, the noble gesture of Eye Donors was acknowledged and their families were invited to share their views. It was an extremely emotional moment for the family members of the eye donors as they remembered their loved ones. The contribution of nursing staff and ophthalmology residents towards Eye Donation was also acknowledged.
Ophthalmology Department Head, SMI Eye Bank Medical Director and Cornea Transplant Surgeon, Prof (Dr.) Tarannum Shakeel interacted with the audience and cleared various myths regarding Eye Donation which are prevalent in the society even today.

So many corneal recipients also shared their views as to how the corneal transplant at Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital has changed their lives.
Prof.(Dr.) Tarannum Shakeel said that she is hopeful that with continued efforts of SMIEB more individuals will benefit from the gift of sight making a lasting impact on society.
Vice Principal Prof. (Dr.) Puneet Ohri urged the younger generations to come forward and inspire others to support Eye Donation.
