On World Cancer Day, Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital Conducted a Public Awareness Campaign

Under the joint auspices of Shri Guru Ram Rai University, SGRR Institute of Medical & Health Sciences, and the College of Nursing, a successful awareness program was organized at Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital on 4 February 2026 on the occasion of World Cancer Day. Conducted with the support of the Oncology Department, the program aimed to spread public awareness about cancer prevention, early detection, and the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

The program commenced with a welcome address by a nursing student, who welcomed the chief guests Dr. Pankaj Garg and Dr. Manoj Gupta, Dr. Rachit Ahuja, faculty members, the panel of judges, and students. The speaker highlighted the significance of World Cancer Day and the role of nurses in cancer awareness and prevention. This was followed by a detailed explanation of the World Cancer Day theme, emphasizing the global impact of cancer, the need for early diagnosis, and collective efforts to reduce cancer-related mortality.

During the event, the chief guests were introduced and felicitated. In their addresses, they motivated students to actively participate in cancer prevention, early screening, positive lifestyle changes, and community-level awareness programs. Through a role play presented by nursing students, the causes of cancer, early symptoms, common misconceptions, and the importance of timely treatment were effectively conveyed. Subsequently, a health education session provided information on common cancers, risk factors, preventive measures, and available screening programs, supported by charts and posters.

As part of the program, a poster competition and model exhibition were organized, where students showcased creative posters and models related to cancer awareness, prevention, and early detection. Outstanding participants were awarded by the judges. The program concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the chief guests, the Principal of the College of Nursing Prof. (Dr.) G. Ramalakshmi, Head of the Medical Surgical Nursing Department Prof. (Dr.) Ponnamari K., faculty members, organizers, and participants. The program successfully achieved its objectives and significantly strengthened the role of nursing students in community health along with promoting cancer awareness.
